Khakas
Siberian Turks of the Minusinsk basin on the Yenisei River. Some of the Old Turkic inscriptions were found on their very land.
The Khakas are a Turkic people of the Siberian branch who call themselves "tadar". They live in the Minusinsk basin on the upper Yenisei. The region was an important centre of the Old Turkic era, and some of the Yenisei runic inscriptions were found here.
Historically the Khakas are linked to the Yenisei Kyrgyz. Abakan is the capital of the Republic of Khakassia. Khakas heroic epics are performed in throat voice to the chatkhan and khomys string instruments.
