Nogais
Heirs of the Nogai Horde, the nomadic Kipchaks of the steppes between the Caspian and the Black Sea. The Edige epic is their best-known.
The Nogais are a Turkic people of the Kipchak branch. Their name comes from Nogai, a commander of the Golden Horde. In the 14th–16th centuries the Nogai Horde spanned the great steppes from the Volga to the Irtysh. In later centuries the Nogais withdrew to the steppes of the North Caucasus.
Today Nogais live in Russia's Dagestan, Stavropol, Karachay-Cherkessia, Chechnya and Astrakhan regions. In the 19th century many migrated to Ottoman lands, so there is also a Nogai community in Türkiye.
