Aliagha Shikhlinski
General known as "the god of artillery" (1865–1943), author of the "Shikhlinski triangle" firing method.

Aliagha Shikhlinski was born in the Gazakh district in 1865 and graduated from the Mikhailovsky Artillery School in St Petersburg.
He fought in the defence of Port Arthur, where he applied the firing method known as the "Shikhlinski triangle". In the First World War he directed artillery for the Russian army and was called "the god of artillery".
In 1918–1920 he was deputy war minister of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. He wrote a Russian–Azerbaijani military dictionary and memoirs, and died in Baku in 1943.
