Figure skating
Sport and art on ice — Mikhail Shaidorov became Kazakhstan's first Olympic figure skating champion in 2026.

In figure skating athletes perform jumps, spins and step sequences on ice to music. Olympic events are men's and women's singles, pairs, ice dance and the team event, and each skater performs a short and a free programme.
History
The International Skating Union (ISU), founded in 1892, is the oldest winter sports federation. Figure skating was held at the London 1908 Summer Olympics — the first winter sport on the Olympic programme, before the Winter Games existed — and has been part of the Winter Olympics since 1924.
Major competitions
The Olympic Games, the ISU World Championships, the European Championships, the Four Continents Championships and the Grand Prix series and final.
Figure skating in the Turkic world
Kazakhstan's Mikhail Shaidorov became Olympic men's champion at Milano Cortina 2026 — his country's first Olympic gold in figure skating. Before him, Denis Ten won bronze at Sochi 2014. Hungary's Krisztina Regőczy and András Sallay were world champions and Olympic silver medallists in ice dance in 1980, and Alina Zagitova, of Tatar descent, became Olympic champion in 2018.
