Siberian Tatars
The indigenous Turkic people of Western Siberia. They live along the Tobol and Irtysh rivers and are heirs of the Siberian Khanate of Kuchum Khan.
The Siberian Tatars are a Turkic people of the Kipchak branch, distinct from the Volga Tatars and indigenous to Western Siberia. In the 15th–16th centuries this was the Siberian Khanate, with its capital at Isker (Qashliq). In 1582 Kuchum Khan's state fell to Russian campaigns.
In the 2021 census most Siberian Tatars were counted simply as "Tatars": only 6,297 people listed themselves separately. Ethnographers estimate their number at about 200,000.
