TRT Avaz was created to bring the peoples of the Turkic world together on one screen. It went on air on Nowruz, 21 March 2009; avaz means "voice" in Turkic languages.

Besides Türkiye, it addresses Azerbaijan, Central Asia and Turkic communities in the Balkans and the Caucasus, with news, documentaries, music and cultural programmes in Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Turkmen and other Turkic languages.

It produces joint programmes with the broadcasters of Turkic states and covers shared Turkic festivals and events live.
