Alim Qasimov

Alim Qasimov was born in Shamakhi on 14 August 1957 and studied mugham at the Asaf Zeynalli Music School.

While faithful to the traditional rules of mugham, his singing is marked by great improvisational freedom. In 1999 he received the UNESCO International Music Prize. He has performed in the world's most famous concert halls and collaborated with jazz and Western musicians.

Qasimov is also known for performances with his daughter Fargana Qasimova, and is regarded as one of the most important artists bringing mugham to new generations and to the world.
