Antalya lies between the Taurus Mountains and the Mediterranean. It was founded in the 2nd century BC by Attalus II, king of Pergamon. The old quarter, Kaleiçi, keeps its narrow lanes, Ottoman houses and ancient harbour.

Hadrian's Gate, a triple arch built in AD 130 in honour of the emperor, the Fluted Minaret and the Düden waterfalls are the city's landmarks. Nearby are the theatre of Aspendos and the ancient cities of Perge and Side.

Antalya and its resorts — Alanya, Side, Kemer and Belek — welcome millions of foreign tourists every year, and Antalya Airport is one of the busiest in Türkiye.
