Ashgabat 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games
The largest international sports event hosted by Turkmenistan, for which a huge Olympic complex was built in Ashgabat.
The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games were held in Ashgabat in 2017, making it the third city in the former Soviet countries to host an Olympic Council of Asia event.
Alongside indoor sports, the programme included martial arts such as kurash, judo, taekwondo, wrestling and Turkmen wrestling.
A large Olympic complex with a stadium, sports halls and an athletes' village was built in Ashgabat for the Games and is still used for international competitions.
