With Azerspace-1, launched in 2013, Azerbaijan joined the ranks of space-faring nations.
The Azercosmos agency, founded in 2010, runs the country's satellite programme. Its first telecommunications satellite, Azerspace-1, was launched from French Guiana on 7 February 2013 and provides TV and communications services to Europe, Asia and Africa.
The Earth-observation satellite Azersky has been operated since 2014, and Azerspace-2 was launched on 25 September 2018. The satellites serve agriculture, mapping and emergency monitoring.
