Babur
Ruler and poet born in Andijan (1483–1530), founder of the Mughal Empire in India and author of the Baburnama.

Babur was born on 14 February 1483 in Andijan in the Fergana Valley, a descendant of Timur through his father and of Genghis Khan through his mother, and took the throne of Fergana at twelve.
He took and lost Samarkand several times; after Shaybani Khan drove him from Transoxiana he seized Kabul in 1504, and in 1526 he defeated the Sultan of Delhi at Panipat, founding the Mughal Empire in India.
Also a fine poet, he wrote his memoirs, the Baburnama, in Chagatai Turkic — one of the most candid autobiographies in world literature. A park-museum in Andijan bears his name.
