Barış Manço
A pioneer of Anatolian rock (1943–1999) and, through his show "7'den 77'ye", the favourite of several generations.

Barış Manço was born in Istanbul and studied in Belgium. From the 1960s he blended Turkish folk tunes with rock and became one of the founders of Anatolian rock, performing for many years with his band Kurtalan Ekspres.
Songs such as "Dağlar Dağlar", "Gülpembe", "Arkadaşım Eşek" and "Domates Biber Patlıcan" are remembered by adults and children alike; his long hair, big rings and moustache were part of his stage persona.
In his TRT programme "7'den 77'ye" (1988–1998) he travelled to dozens of countries and showed them to viewers, and he was also popular in Japan. He died on 1 February 1999; his house in Kadıköy is now a museum.
