Juma Mosque of Shamakhi

Founded in 743, one of the oldest mosques in the Caucasus.

The Juma Mosque of Shamakhi was founded in 743 and is counted among the oldest mosques in the Caucasus; Shamakhi was for centuries the capital of the Shirvanshahs.

Damaged many times by earthquakes and wars, it has been rebuilt again and again. The present building dates from the early 20th century and was thoroughly restored in 2010–2013.
