Franz Liszt
Hungarian composer and virtuoso pianist (1811–1886), author of the Hungarian Rhapsodies.
Franz Liszt became famous as a pianist as a child and studied with Carl Czerny and Antonio Salieri; his tours of Europe in the 1830s and 1840s caused such a sensation that contemporaries spoke of "Lisztomania".
One of the most prolific and influential composers of the Romantic era, he is best known for works such as the Hungarian Rhapsodies, based on Hungarian folk and Romani melodies.
Also a conductor and teacher who trained many musicians, he gives his name to the Liszt Academy of Music and the international airport in Budapest.
