Fikrat Amirov
Composer (1922–1984) who created the symphonic mugham, author of Shur, Kurd Ovshari and the ballet One Thousand and One Nights.

Fikrat Amirov was born in Ganja on 22 November 1922 into the family of the famous mugham singer and tar player Mashadi Jamil Amirov, and grew up surrounded by mugham.
With Shur and Kurd Ovshari, both written in 1948, he founded a new genre — the symphonic mugham — transferring mugham's structure and spirit into the language of the symphony orchestra. He later wrote the symphonic mugham Gulustan Bayati-Shiraz, the opera Sevil and the ballet One Thousand and One Nights.
His works have been conducted by famous conductors around the world. Amirov died in Baku on 20 February 1984.
