Huseyn Javid
Romantic poet and playwright (1882–1941), victim of the 1937 repressions.

Huseyn Javid was born in Nakhchivan in 1882, studied in Tabriz and Istanbul and later taught in Baku.
He is the greatest figure of Azerbaijani romantic drama, author of verse tragedies such as Sheikh Sanan, Iblis, Siyavush, Lame Timur and Khayyam, which pose deep philosophical questions about humanity, faith, evil and justice.
Arrested in 1937 and exiled to Siberia, he died in Irkutsk region in 1941. In 1982 his remains were brought back to Nakhchivan, where a mausoleum was later built.
