Emeric Thököly
Leader of revolts against the Habsburgs (1657–1705) and ally of the Ottomans, who spent his last years in İzmit.

Like his father, Emeric Thököly led revolts against the Habsburgs; he was Prince of Upper Hungary, an Ottoman vassal state, in 1682–1685 and briefly Prince of Transylvania in 1690.
Allied with the Ottomans, he aided them at the Battle of Vienna in 1683 and commanded the Turkish cavalry at the Battle of Zenta in 1697.
Refusing to surrender to the Habsburg emperor, he lived on estates granted by the sultan and died in İzmit in 1705; in 1906 his remains were reburied in Késmárk (now in Slovakia).
