Rishton in Fergana Region is Uzbekistan's most famous ceramics centre, where potters use local red clay and an ishkor glaze made from the ash of mountain plants; its wares are known for brilliant turquoise and blue.

Masters in Gijduvan, Bukhara Region, make plates and jars in brown, yellow and green with large floral patterns. In both schools the craft passes from father to son.

In 2023 UNESCO inscribed "Ceramic arts in Uzbekistan", and the workshops of Rishton and Gijduvan are now favourite stops for travellers.
