In Azerbaijan the pomegranate stands for abundance, blessing and love. It is made into juice, narsharab sauce and jam, and it is a frequent motif on carpets, kelaghayi scarves and copperware.

Every autumn, at harvest time, the town of Goychay holds the Nar Bayrami: fairs, concerts, dances, sports contests and a competition for the biggest pomegranate.

"Nar Bayrami, traditional pomegranate festivity and culture" was inscribed on UNESCO's intangible heritage list in 2020.
