Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan
Created from the units of the Soviet Turkestan Military District stationed in the country; 29 May is Armed Forces Day.
The Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan were formed after independence from the units of the Soviet Turkestan Military District remaining in the country, and 29 May is celebrated each year as Armed Forces Day.
They consist of the Ground Forces, the Air Force and the National Guard, with the border service and internal troops also part of the country's defence system.
Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and its army is adapted to service in mountainous terrain.
