Shah-i-Zinda
The "Living King" — a street of mausoleums in Samarkand whose blue-tiled tombs are jewels of the Timurid era.

Shah-i-Zinda lies in north-eastern Samarkand at the foot of the ancient Afrasiab hill. Its name means "the Living King", from a legend about Qusam ibn Abbas, cousin of the Prophet, whose tomb here has been venerated for centuries.
Along a narrow stepped street stand the mausoleums of Timur's relatives, commanders and nobles, mostly from the 14th–15th centuries, their facades covered in blue, turquoise and white tiles — each a work of art.
One of Samarkand's most visited sites, it draws pilgrims who come to pray and travellers who marvel at its colours and patterns.
