Sari Gelin

One of Azerbaijan's best-loved folk songs — a plaintive song of two young people whose love cannot be fulfilled.

Sari Gelin is an anonymous folk song. It sings of a young man's sorrow at being unable to marry his beloved "sari gelin" — the fair-haired bride.

Passed down through generations, it has been sung in many versions. In the 20th century famous mugham singers, and later modern performers and orchestras, recorded their own interpretations.

Sari Gelin is one of the best-known Azerbaijani melodies in the world and is also much loved in Türkiye and other Turkic countries.
