Shakhriyar Mamedyarov
Chess player, twice world junior champion and an Azerbaijani grandmaster who rose near the top of the world rankings.
Shakhriyar Mamedyarov was born in Sumgait in 1985 and was world junior champion in 2003 and 2005.
He has won some of the world's strongest tournaments, climbed into the world top five and become European champion with Azerbaijan's national team.
