Tarakama

A fast, bold men's dance born from the life of nomadic herders.

Tarakama takes its name from the Tarakama herders who migrated between summer and winter pastures, and it reflects their life — galloping horses, guarding the flock, the open steppe.

It is made of quick, energetic movements, leaps and spins on one knee, showing men's courage and agility, though women sometimes dance it too.

Tarakama is especially popular in the western regions and Karabakh; in 2013 Azerbaijan's post issued a stamp dedicated to it.
