Teleuts

The Teleuts are a Turkic people of the Siberian branch who call themselves "teleŋet". In the 17th century they formed a powerful tribal union on the steppes between the Altai and the Ob River; later part of them moved to the Kuznetsk basin.

Today most Teleuts live in the Belovo district of Kemerovo Oblast. They are on Russia's list of small indigenous peoples and work to keep their language and festivals alive.
