The Seven Beauties (ballet)

Gara Garayev's ballet after Nizami Ganjavi's poem Haft Paykar, the most famous Azerbaijani ballet since 1952.

The Seven Beauties is based on Nizami Ganjavi's poem Haft Paykar. The ballet shows the struggle within Shah Bahram between his passion for power and his duty to his people.

It premiered in Baku on 7 November 1952. Its music voices Azerbaijani folk melodies and mugham intonations in a symphonic language.

Numbers such as the Waltz and the Dances of the Seven Beauties are performed around the world as an orchestral suite.
