Tokaj wine region
Home of Tokaji aszú, the world's oldest botrytised wine, and a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape.

The Tokaj region lies in north-eastern Hungary and south-eastern Slovakia, with 28 villages and more than 11,000 hectares of classified vineyards; its old name, Hegyalja, means "foothills".
It is famous for Tokaji aszú, made from grapes shrivelled and sweetened by a special mould — the world's oldest botrytised wine.
Because of its long and unique winemaking tradition, the region was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, and its cellars, vineyards and villages make for a quiet getaway.
