Tole Bi, Kazybek Bi and Aiteke Bi

The three great judges of the three zhuzes (17th–18th centuries), sages who drafted the Zheti Zhargy laws and symbolise unity.

A bi in Kazakh society was both judge and wise orator. Tole Bi was the bi of the Senior Zhuz, Kazybek Bi of the Middle Zhuz and Aiteke Bi of the Junior Zhuz; all lived in the time of Tauke Khan (late 17th — early 18th century).

Tradition holds that with Tauke Khan they drafted the code of laws called Zheti Zhargy ("Seven Laws"), which settled land, family, criminal, military and other matters justly. Their sayings are still quoted as proverbs.

During the Dzungar invasion all three called the people to unity. A monument to them stands in Astana, and their names symbolise Kazakh unity.
