Turkic University Union (TURKUNIB)

A union of universities of the Turkic states, founded in 2013 to build a common higher-education area.

The Turkic University Union was created for cooperation between the universities of the Turkic states. On 28–29 March 2013 in Istanbul its members adopted a document on building a common higher-education area.

The Union supports student and staff exchanges, joint research projects, mutual recognition of degrees and the teaching of Turkic languages and history.

Its general assemblies rotate among universities of the member countries; the seventh was held in Baku. Universities from observer countries, such as Eastern Mediterranean University in Northern Cyprus, are also admitted.
