Boron reserves of Türkiye

About 70 per cent of the world's boron reserves are in Türkiye, mined by the state company Eti Maden.

Boron is a key raw material for glass, ceramics, detergents, insulation, fertilisers and nuclear and space technologies. Türkiye ranks first in the world in boron reserves; by various estimates about 70 per cent of global reserves lie within its borders.

The main deposits are at Kırka (Eskişehir), Emet (Kütahya), Bigadiç (Balıkesir) and Kestelek (Bursa). The state company Eti Maden runs the mines and processing plants, and the country is one of the largest exporters of boron products.

Besides exporting raw materials, Türkiye has in recent years been investing in high-value products such as boron carbide and in lithium production.
