Turkmen jewellery
Large ornaments of silver, gilding and carnelian that symbolise a woman's status and protection.

Turkmen jewellers make bracelets, rings, earrings, breast ornaments, hair pieces and plaques for headdresses from silver, gilding them and setting them with red carnelian.
The amount of jewellery a woman wore showed her family's standing, and the jingling and the colour of the stones were thought to ward off the evil eye; a bride's wedding set was very heavy.
Turkmen women still wear traditional jewellery at holidays and weddings, and old pieces are kept in Ashgabat's museums and collections worldwide.
