Armed Forces of Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan's national army, purely defensive in keeping with its permanent neutrality.
The Armed Forces of Turkmenistan were created after independence and are informally called the Turkmen National Army; 27 January is celebrated every year as Defenders of the Fatherland Day.
They consist of the Ground Forces, the Air and Air Defence Forces and the Navy, which serves on the Caspian, together with border troops, internal troops and the National Guard.
As a permanently neutral state, Turkmenistan does not join military blocs, and its army exists solely to defend the country.
