International Turkic Academy

A centre for Turkic studies founded in Astana in 2010. In 2024 its commission adopted the 34-letter Common Turkic Alphabet.

The International Turkic Academy carries out research on the languages, history, literature and culture of the Turkic peoples. It was founded in Kazakhstan on 25 May 2010 and became an international organisation by an agreement signed at the Bishkek summit on 23 August 2012. It is based in Astana.

The Academy studies ancient Turkic inscriptions, publishes books on shared Turkic history and literature and organises expeditions and academic conferences.

One of its largest projects is the Common Turkic Alphabet. Meeting in Baku on 9–11 September 2024, the Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission adopted a Latin-based alphabet of 34 letters, each standing for a particular sound in the Turkic languages.
