Uzundara

A graceful, slow women's dance traditionally performed by the bride at weddings.

Uzundara is one of the most graceful Azerbaijani women's dances: the dancer moves forward with slow, flowing steps and delicate gestures of the arms and wrists.

By tradition it is danced by the bride at her wedding, to the zurna or the tar. Its name, "long valley", is linked to a long valley between mountains.

Today uzundara lives on both at weddings and in the stage repertoire of dance ensembles.
