Khan Shushinski (born Isfandiyar Javanshir) was born near Shusha in 1901. He studied with Shusha's famous mugham singers as a youth and became known as Khan Shushinski — "the khan of Shusha".

His powerful voice and wide range, above all in the mughams Chahargah, Shushtar and Humayun, form part of the golden archive of Azerbaijani mugham. He also composed a number of tasnifs and folk songs.

Khan Shushinski trained many pupils and was named People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR. He died in Baku in 1979.
