Yaşar Doğu
Legend of Turkish wrestling (1913–1961), Olympic champion in 1948 and world champion in 1951.

Yaşar Doğu was born in Kavak, Samsun, and began wrestling on village greens. He competed in both freestyle and Greco-Roman.
He won freestyle gold at 79 kg at the 1948 London Olympics, became European champion in 1946 and world champion in Helsinki in 1951. In his era Turkish wrestlers were known as a "golden generation".
After retiring he coached the national team. He died in 1961, and the international Yaşar Doğu wrestling tournament is held in his memory every year in Türkiye.
