Alykul Osmonov
Poet (1915–1950) who helped carry Kyrgyz poetry from the oral tradition into modern written literature.

Orphaned young, Alykul Osmonov grew up in a children's home and, despite serious illness, wrote many poems in his short life.
He brought inner emotion, everyday life and love of the homeland into Kyrgyz verse, and his poems are loved for their plain language and sincerity.
He translated Shakespeare, Pushkin and Petőfi into Kyrgyz and died at 35. His portrait is on the 200-som note, and there is a museum in his former house.
