Almazbek Atambayev
Kyrgyzstan's fourth president (b. 1956), the first in Central Asia to hand over power peacefully through an election.

Leader of the Social Democratic Party, Almazbek Atambayev was prime minister in 2007 and in 2010–2011 and was elected president in October 2011.
He served the single six-year term allowed by the constitution and in 2017 handed power to his elected successor — a first for the region. He was arrested in 2019.
