Audi Hungaria was founded in Győr in 1993 and makes engines, engine components and cars; it is regarded as the world's largest engine factory.

It employs more than 11,000 people, and Audi's investment in Győr has exceeded 8 billion euros.

The car industry is a mainstay of the Hungarian economy — Mercedes-Benz also has a plant in Kecskemét — and machinery, vehicles and electronics are the country's main exports.
