Bellapais Abbey was built in the 13th century in the village of the same name, about 5 km from Kyrenia and 220 m above sea level.

Its Gothic cloister, refectory and church partly survive and look down over Kyrenia and the Mediterranean.

Now a museum, the abbey hosts concerts and lectures in its refectory, and international classical music festivals in spring and early summer.
