Dordoy is Kyrgyzstan's largest market, compared with Bangkok's Chatuchak or Tehran's Grand Bazaar; much of it is made of stacked shipping containers.

Goods from China pass through it on their way to Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan, and economists count this re-export trade among Kyrgyzstan's largest economic activities.

It is a major employer for Bishkek and the Chüy Valley, with tens of thousands of people working there; the second such hub, in the south, is the Kara-Suu bazaar in Osh Region.
