Fazıl Küçük
Doctor and politician (1906–1984), leader of the Turkish Cypriots and first Vice President of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960.

Fazıl Küçük was born in Nicosia, studied medicine in Istanbul and Switzerland and returned home to practise as a doctor.
From the 1940s he was a leading figure in Turkish Cypriot politics and founded the newspaper Halkın Sesi; when the Republic of Cyprus was created in 1960 he was elected its first Vice President.
He died in London in 1984 and was buried in Nicosia. Turkish Cypriots remember him as a leader of their national struggle; a stadium in Famagusta and many streets bear his name.
