Halászlé — fisherman's soup
A bright-red, spicy Hungarian soup of river fish cooked with plenty of hot paprika.

Halászlé is the dish of the fishermen of the Pannonian Plain, especially along the Danube and Tisza rivers. It is made mostly with carp or mixed river fish and generous amounts of hot paprika.
Traditionally it is cooked outdoors in a cauldron over a wood fire. On Christmas Eve many Hungarian families have halászlé on the table.
