The Köýtendag range, part of the Pamir-Alay, lies in Lebap Region on the Uzbek border and holds Turkmenistan's highest point, Aýrybaba (3,138 m).

Its reserve has deep canyons, caves and waterfalls, and its most famous site is the "Dinosaur Plateau", a limestone slab preserving hundreds of footprints of dinosaurs that lived over a hundred million years ago.

The reserve is home to rare animals such as wild goats, lynx and eagles, and travellers come for its caves and dinosaur tracks.
