Kürtőskalács (chimney cake)
A tube-shaped sweet bread baked on a rotating spit over embers and caramelised with sugar.

Kürtőskalács is the sweet of the Hungarians of Transylvania, especially the Székelys. Dough is wound in a strip around a wooden spit, rolled in sugar and turned over embers until the sugar melts into a shiny crust.
Its first written mention dates from 1679 and the first recipe from 1781. Once a festive treat, it is now a favourite at street fairs, topped with cinnamon, walnuts or coconut.
