Nukus Museum of Art (Savitsky Museum)
Home in Karakalpakstan to the world's second-largest collection of Russian avant-garde art, called "the Louvre of Uzbekistan".

The museum was created by the artist and collector Igor Savitsky, who rescued works by artists banned in Soviet times and brought them to remote Nukus.
It holds more than 82,000 items: Russian avant-garde art, works by Uzbek artists, finds from ancient Khwarazm and Karakalpak folk art — jewellery, costume and carpets.
The Guardian called it "the Louvre of Uzbekistan", and travellers heading to the Aral Sea usually stop in Nukus to see it.
