Pembe Marmara

Poet (1925–1984), a pioneering woman of free verse in Turkish Cypriot poetry.

Pembe Marmara is a prominent name in Turkish Cypriot poetry who began in the "Çığ" movement of Turkish Cypriot literature.

Influenced by Orhan Veli Kanık's Garip movement, she turned to free verse in plain language, focusing on everyday life and human feeling.

She died in 1984; the sociologist Ulus Baker was her son, and she is regarded as a trailblazer for women poets in Turkish Cypriot literature.
