Kyz kuumai (chase the girl)
A horseback chase between a young man and a girl — a lively, romantic nomad contest.

At the start the girl stands a few dozen metres ahead of the young man. At the signal she gallops off and he chases her; if he catches her on the way, he wins the right to kiss her in the saddle.
On the way back the roles reverse: now she chases him, and if she catches him she may "punish" him with her whip, to the laughter and cheers of the crowd.
Played at festivals and weddings, kyz kuumai was a way for young people to meet. Today it is part of the World Nomad Games and is known to Kazakhs as kyz kuu and to Bashkirs as kyz kuuu.
