Song-Köl lies in northern Naryn Region and covers about 270 square kilometres, making it the country's second-largest lake after Issyk-Kul and its largest freshwater lake.

In summer the wide pastures (jailoo) around it fill with herds, and herders live in yurts, welcoming guests with kymyz and fresh bread.

The road is rough, but travellers come to see nomadic life up close: horse rides, nights in a yurt and starry skies are its main attractions.
