Khorasani Turks
Oghuz Turks of Khorasan in north-eastern Iran. Their language forms a bridge between Turkmen and Azerbaijani.
The Khorasani Turks are a Turkic people of the Oghuz branch living in Iran's North Khorasan and Razavi Khorasan provinces, around Bojnurd, Quchan and Dargaz. They call themselves simply "Turk". Since Seljuk times the region has been an important home of the Oghuz tribes.
Nader Shah Afshar, who ruled Iran in the 18th century, came from the Turkic Afshar tribe of Khorasan. Khorasani Turkic is regarded as a transitional dialect group between Turkmen and Azerbaijani.
